WE DO NOT MAKE ANY PROFIT ON DELIVERY AND PACKAGING AND ARE CONSISTENTLY CHEAPER THAN MOST OF, IF NOT ALL, OF OUR COMPETITORS. WHAT WE CHARGE OUR CUSTOMERS IS WHAT WE HAVE TO PAY.

We will try wherever possible to use re-cycled packaging to keep these costs as low as possible and in line with our pledge to the environment.

Our delivery charge is based on weight and parcel size. We cater for our customers who want to order cases of beer or lager or do their weekly or monthly gluten free shop with us.
Orders (for delivery within UK Mail’s mainland UK area) will be despatched as standard Home and Business Delivery using UK Mail’s next working delivery service, please note this is not a paid for guaranteed service – it is what UK Mail aim for, sometimes delays can occur, the same as any other delivery service, we will always aim to update a customer if there is a delay. We will aim to dispatch all orders within 24 hours (this can be 48 during busy periods). You will receive an email or SMS to confirm the dispatch number and approximate delivery time and date. Please note that adhearing to our licensing laws means parcels containing alcohol cannot be left without obtaining an adult signature to help protect minors.

Food orders received from 1pm on Friday will not be dispatched until the following Monday.

We may be able to deliver overseas, let us know which hamper or case you are thinking of sending and we will get a courier price for you (based on destination, weight and volume).

We do not offer delivery on weekends or bank holidays (some depots are carrying out Saturday deliveries though)

If all 2 attempts to deliver by our carrier have failed, or you have supplied an incorrect address we cannot refund the cost of carriage.

Any damages should be signed for as damaged on the driver’s manifest. Please notify us within 24 hours of delivery.

In accordance with the Licensing Act 1964, it is an offence for any person under 18 to buy or attempt to buy intoxicating drinks. By placing an order you are confirming that you are aged 18 or over. Please note that we run age verification software on our site in accordance with licencing laws and require all orders that are placed for alcohol to be made by registered customers only. UK Mail’s drivers are made aware when they are delivering age restricted products and will always require a signature on delivery by an adult – any person suspected to be under 18 will be asked for identification before the parcel can be left with them, failure to provide sufficient identification will result in the parcel being retained and sent back to us. We cannot leave parcels containing alcohol in a safe place due to the need for a signature – we can obtain the signature from a neighbour so please feel free to mention this is the despatch notes.

Bottles and labels can and do vary and the images shown on the website may not be the same as current stock items, we reserve the right to substitute for a brand of the equivalent or higher value.

If you are not satisfied for any reason then goods should be returned intact within 14 days of receipt. Cost of carriage in this instance is the customer’s responsibility. Christmas and gift hampers cannot be returned as they contain perishable items.

We accept no responsibility for failure to deliver due to circumstances beyond our control. Should the wrong delivery area be erroneously selected then we will take any additional charges/make refunds to our customers to the card they paid with.

VAT is charged on relevant products including carriage at the prevailing rate. VAT is included in the prices listed in the Online store for products sold, a breakdown will be shown in your basket on the said checkout page.

Allergy information and ingredients

Our products are gluten-free and suitable for those with Coeliac Disease.

We make a concerted effort to stock gluten free beer and foods that are nutrious and tasty, all our items taste so good you would not know they are gluten-free.

The product information on this site has been provided by the manufacturers and the product packaging. However, customers are advised to check the packaging information to satisfy themsleves that the items are suitable.

We try our very best to state all the allergens in item description, listing dairy free, wheat free as well as vegetarian and organic, however we at the Gluten-Free Shop cannnot be held responsible for any errors or omissions on product listings as manufacturers may change ingredients without prior notice.

Environmental packaging

We endeavour to reuse packaging wherever possible to minimise waste. This means that your order may be dispatched in reused/recycled packaging obtained from local supermarkets and suppliers. We are currently trying to source a compostable airfill wrap for fragile goods, however due to the contents being mainly fluids this is becoming difficult, as one small breakage will damage the entire contents, also many of the alternatives also contain wheat!

Relationship between coeliac disease and gluten-free foods

The following is a brief description of the relation between coeliac disease and gluten-free foods we stock.

At the Gluten-Free shop we do not try to sell you products that are naturally gluten-free. These products are often expensive when sold as wheat free and can sometimes be sold to unsuspecting customers who are purchasing gluten-free food or wheat-free food.

Wheat-free beer and wheat-free lager also referred to as gluten-free lager and gluten-free beer.

The ingredient glycoproteins (gluten) is not included in any gluten-free beer or lager. Glycoproteins are unsuitable for those with a variety of medical conditions, causing an autoimmune response that can lead to more serious conditions. People that must avoid gluten in their diet have a reaction to gliadin found in wheat and more often of importance for beer, hordein, the ‘gluten’ of barley. That is why it is of upmost importance ceoliacs may only drink gluten-free beer. Only a very few specialist breweries cater for coeliacs, those who would not be able to tolerate the above mentioned ingredients, found in wheat. Buckwheat, an ingredient high in rutine which strengthens blood vessels and also high in fagopyrins- decreases blood cholesterol and is high in protien and sorghum, high in vitamin B, B6 and folacin and rich in calcium are two main ingredients used by gluten-free brewers. Standards of gluten-free do vary. In the UK a beer with less than 20 parts per million gluten (20ppm) is deemed gluten-free. Brewers producing low gluten beers are required to test every batch for gluten, recording the levels in parts per million (ppm). Formulas for home brewing kits would typically include a sweet sorghum syrup as the main carbohydrate. It is commercially manufactured from sorghum grain to act as a malt substitute and contain the necessary amino acids and unfermentable sugars needed for yeast nutrition. Honey, maltodextrin and roasted or malted buckwheat are included for character. Commercial gluten-free home brewing kits that contain sorghum syrup, hops, yeast and other ingredients are often more costly than standard home brew kits.

One of our main aims when we started the gluten-free shop was to provide people who are wheat intolerant or have to maintain a wheat free diet / gluten free diet, with a varied choice of gluten-free beer, and wheat free beer. We believe we have been successful in stocking many different brands of gluten-free beer such as Ambar, Saxon, Daas, Cropcircle, Celia, Night Mission, Estrella Damm Daura, Hambleton Ales. Our aim is to provide a variety of gluten-free lagers, ales and gluten-free beers under one roof for our customers to enjoy. We are constantly looking for new and exciting gluten-free and wheat free beers to maintain this commitment to our customers.

Diagnosing those with Coeliac disease

Diagnosing those with Coeliac disease is often a difficult route and many find themselves diagnosed with other conditions, particularly IBS Irritable Bowel Syndrome before eventually reaching the conclusion of Coeliac disease. Symptons of Coeliac Disease are persistent they include stomach cramps, diarrhoea, weight loss, muscle wasting, lethargy, lowered immune system. It affects both women and men of all ages although it can start in infancy it is most commonly diagnosed between the ages of 30 and 45. It is estimated more than one in 100 people in the UK have Coeliac disease and only one in eight are actually diagnosed. The risk of developing coeliac disease is increased to 1 in 10 if it is present in a family member.

Prior to getting diagnosed it is essential you maintain a diet containing gluten as it is the gluten that needs to be present in your body to enable the test to be accurate. A blood test will be performed to detect the presence of coeliac antibodies. If the results come back positive a referral to a consultant at the hospital for a biopsy of the small intestine to confirm suspected diagnosis will normal follow .

Finally, once gluten is eliminated from your diet, the lining of the small intestine will be able to get back to functioning as normal. Food will be absorbed properly, improving energy levels as well as nutrient levels. There should be a noticable difference to your well being. As with avoiding any foods it is important that you make sure you maintain essential vitamins and minerals, (especially calcium) eating a healthy well balanced gluten-free diet.

Coeliac disease need not be as restrictive as it sounds, you can still fit in with those around you enjoying a variety of foods whilst maintaning a gluten-free diet without feeling excluded from favourite foods. We aim to help with your choice of tasty healthy foods without gluten .
